Ticketing Options:
- All Skiers/Riders and Guides (including those wanting a DBS Season Pass) will be issued a DBS photo ID card.
- You must have ID's in hand to participate and receive Kirkwood discounts.
Any Skier/Rider who does not have an ID card must call Discovery Skier/Rider Logistics a minimum of 7 days in advance of a trip.
TO ACQUIRE AN ID CARD:
You must fill out a current registration package every year and send it to the Program Coordinator before your first trip to Kirkwood. After your package has been received and processed a letter entitling you to receive your ID will be mailed to you. Simply take this letter along with a picture ID to the Season Pass Office in the Lodge and a photo ID will be issued to you. With this ID you can purchase lift tickets and get rental discounts from Kirkwood Mountain Resort.
Skiers/Riders and Guides should contact Skier/rider Logistics well in advance of their first trip to Kirkwood. This will allow ample time for registration packets to be received and letters to be mailed out.
To Obtain Tickets Using The ID Card:
This season lift tickets for skier/riders-- guide pairs will be $ 32.00.
Both skier/rider and guide must present their DBS - ID cards as well as a second form of photo identification together at ANY TICKET WINDOW. Skier/rider and guide must both be wearing a Discovery bib. Please be patient at the beginning of the season, as all Kirkwood employees may not be familiar with this form of ticketing.

GROUP RESERVATIONS
Interested groups should contact Casey Landrum or Traci Rofidal at (925) 784-2258 for information and cost estimates, which include rental equipment fees, guide fees, group housing options, and guide housing costs. Groups of 5 - 10 skiers/riders will be charged a 10% overhead fee. This 10% is intended to offset the expense of telephone calls, coordination and special mailings. Groups are required to provide lodging for all guides used for that group, at no cost to the guide.
To promote camaraderie between guides and skier/riders, it is suggested that small groups share their accommodations when possible. Guides are responsible for their own meals.
SKI/BOARD RENTALS
Again this season there will be a $25 / day charge for ski rental and $30 / day charge for snowboard rental equipment. Rental fee's for guides and silent partners is also $25.00/day
- When going through the rental lines at either Timber Creek or The Lodge, Discovery Skiers/riders and Guides must be wearing bibs. This will help to avoid any possible conflict by easily identifying yourselves.
- It is requested that you try to obtain your rentals early, before the rental areas get too busy and crowded.
- You may be required to leave a credit card as a deposit for equipment.
- Groups must complete rental forms several weeks before a trip and return them to the Group Coordinator. Kirkwood will prepare equipment the day before a large group event. This will avoid lengthy waits in the rental line, and congestion in the rental shop. Discovery staff will label equipment and assist skiers/riders with fittings. Should any changes in equipment be needed (ie: boot size), an individual skier/rider and their guide may re-enter the regular rental line and be fitted.
- Group leaders: please make sure all pertinent information is listed on the form. Name, address, phone #, SS #, weight, height, age, sex, shoe size, level of skiing/riding ability I, II, or III. If you have questions regarding ability level contact us for clarification; Be sure to include participant and parent/guardian signatures.
SKIER/RIDER SPONSORSHIP OPTIONS
To help offset the cost of skiing/riding expenses Discovery would like to offer scholarships on a first come first serve basis. Additional scholarships may be available, as funds are raised. Contact Skier/Rider Logistics to obtain additional information.
- Rental Equipment …………..… $26/$30 Transportation Assistance…… $50

- DBS has ski safety helmets available for use, as well as extra cold weather apparel and goggles. Let us know how we can assist you and help make your ski/ride more comfortable.
LIFTS
Identification:
Your lift ticket is printed with a “Discovery Blind Sports” code. Guides and Skiers/Riders wearing these lift tickets must also be wearing a Discovery Bib. The ONLY exception to this is if Guides take a few runs on their lunch break or at the end of the day. In this case, the Guide should not be wearing a bib, but should have it with him/her to show the ticket checker if asked.
Lift Lines:
REMEMBER TO USE THE REGULAR LIFT LINES AT ALL TIMES.
BIBS
We have three different types of bibs:
- Blind / Partially Blind / Guide
There are two methods for obtaining bibs:
- You may “borrow” a set of bibs on the day you ski/ride. These bibs MUST be returned at the end of the day.
- For a deposit of $40, you may check out a set of bibs for the entire season.
Contact Skier Logistics to make arrangements.
- For $10, you can buy a bib, 2 for $18;
Contact Skier Logistics to make arrangements.
LODGING
It is the responsibility of individual skiers/riders and guides to determine lodging for any particular trip.
Lodging Options:
Kirkwood Accommodations, (209) 258 - 8575
Kirkwood Mountain Resort lodging (209) 258 - 7247
Sorenson's Resort (800) 423 - 9949
DRIVERS
Discovery will provide a letter for individuals who provide transportation to blind skiers/riders. A discount lift ticket ($32 for Downhill, $10 for X-C) may be obtained by drivers for the day they transport a skier/rider to Kirkwood.
Skiers/Riders must contact Skier/Rider Logistics well in advance to arrange for a driver ticket.
GUIDE / SKIER DEVELOPMENT
Lessons for Guide – Skier/Rider pairs:
Pairs may attend a group lesson at Kirkwood if and only if there are 3 or more full paying customers. The charge is $35.00 for the pair.
Please check the Ski School Group Lesson schedule. Lessons at Red Cliff's meet at the "Trees" near the base of chair #1. When Timber Creek Lodge is open, all group lessons will meet there.
CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
Kirkwood provides discounted trail passes for CrossCountry and Snowshoe also. Equipment rentals are discounted through the Cross Country Center. The skier / guide team will receive a pair of trail passes for $ 10.00. Cross-country equipment will be $15.00 / day.
You must be wearing your bibs and present your ID's at the Center. Fewer Skiers/riders use this program than the downhill program; therefore the employees at the Cross Country Center may not be as familiar with Discovery's benefits. Please keep this in mind when requesting DBS benefits. Kirkwood Cross-Country asks that you arrive before 9:30 am when possible, or wait until after lunch as the center is quite small and check in becomes difficult. Those renting equipment are required to leave a deposit.
